What do we know so far and what we expect

1. Does this mean battery installs will grind to a halt?
Luckily not, you can still proceed with any installations before 1 July, however, in order to be eligible for Battery STCs, you will not be able to switch on the system until after 1 July.
This does mean you will have to return to the site once the Battery STC Scheme is live to turn the system on, as well as collect any documentation that is required by the Government.

2. I’m in NSW, what does that mean for me?
The NSW Government has now confirmed changes to the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) Rule, effective from 1 July 2025. As part of this update:
Battery installations are suspended under the PDRS due to the upcoming Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
This means you will not be able to claim PRCs for batteries installed under the PDRS for now.
However, you can still claim STCs for battery installations—and we expect the new federal battery incentive to launch from 1 July 2025.

3. But what do I need to collect to be eligible?
The Scheme details aren’t confirmed yet, but we’ve drawn on our experience with similar schemes to estimate what evidence will be required from 1 July.
That way, when the program starts, you will not need to spend hours and hours on site collecting everything necessary.

4. What about other State-based Subsidies?
At this stage, we don’t have any further updates on how the Battery STC incentive will interact with other state-based programs. We expect more information to become available closer to the 1 July 2025 launch date, and we’ll share relevant updates as they’re confirmed.
