Frequently Asked Questions about the Cheaper Home Batteries Program

What do we know so far and what we expect

  • 1. Does this mean battery installs will grind to a halt?

Luckily not, you can still proceed with any installations before 1 July, however, in order to be eligible for Battery STCs, you will not be able to switch on the system until after 1 July.

This does mean you will have to return to the site once the Battery STC Scheme is live to turn the system on, as well as collect any documentation that is required by the Government.

  • 2. I’m in NSW, what does that mean for me?

We fully expect that the Battery STC incentive will be stackable with the NSW PRCs, though to ensure this is possible, the NSW Government will need to amend the PDRS Rule.

Simply remember not to switch on the battery before 1 July to ensure you are eligible for both incentives (noting you will not be able to claim PRCs until the system is switched on and fully operational).

  • 3. But what do I need to collect to be eligible?

The Scheme details aren’t confirmed yet, but we’ve drawn on our experience with similar schemes to estimate what evidence will be required from 1 July.

That way, when the program starts, you will not need to spend hours and hours on site collecting everything necessary.

  • 4. What about other State-based Subsidies?

The same applies, we fully expect this Battery STC incentive to stack with the respective programs in Victoria (and soon to be WA), though we will know more as we get closer to the 1 July start date.
