Important things to look for when installing C&I Batteries
From 1 September, three new battery incentives will be available for NSW. Here’s what look for when claiming incentives for Commercial Batteries in Apartment Buildings (BESS3), Small Commercial Premises (BESS4) and Larger Commercial Premises (BESS5)
PV is not required, but installing PV within 90 days can increase your incentives
Installing additional PV alongside your battery can generate 33–47% more incentives with additional PRCs.
To receive the maximum incentive, the inverter should be at least ¼ of the battery's capacity. If the inverter is undersized beyond the permitted threshold, the installation may be ineligible for the incentive altogether.
Get the Nomination Form signed before installation starts
The customer Nomination Form must be signed before any installation work begins. We recommend having this completed as soon as the quote is accepted to avoid your job becoming ineligible.
Network and planning approvals are essential
You must have the required DNSP network approval and planning approval in place for the battery installation. As a general guide:
Commercial Zones: CDCs are required for batteries up to 200 kWh; larger systems require a DA.
Residential Zones: CDCs are required for batteries up to 100 kWh; larger systems require a DA.
All batteries: require approval from the relevant DNSP.
Pay attention to the evidence and installation order
Make sure your photos and supporting documentation clearly follow the required pre-upgrade → installation → post-upgrade chronology.
The order of evidence is important when submitting a job for incentive creation. Jobs completed through our Onsite App will follow the correct evidence chronology automatically.
Confirm your products meet the warranty requirements
Please send us your proposed battery and inverter product list before installation so we can confirm that the products and warranties meet the scheme requirements.
Minimum customer co-payments apply
Your customer must make the required minimum contribution towards the installation. This cannot be refunded:
Apartment buildings: $1,100 including GST
Small commercial premises: $5,500 including GST
