Case Studies - Commercial Lighting Projects

We worked in a number of relevant Commercial Lighting projects in New South Wales and Victoria. Here are a few:

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is recognised as a worldwide leader in healthcare excellence and innovation. RPA provides treatment services to more people in NSW than any other public hospital.

National Carbon Bank of Australia worked with Ryan Wilks, who undertook the lighting upgrade, to provide RPA with significant energy savings.

“It was a great pleasure working with NCBA. Thank you for your constant support throughout the project. Our winning of this year’s NSW NECA Award of Excellence in the Energy Efficiency and Environment category is not only an achievement of our own but is also based on NCBA’s great contribution in providing energy saving proof in compliance with the Energy Savings Scheme. It is a great move for the industry to witness a successful example of how energy efficiency choices can be made to benefit projects and facilities.

We would like to say a big thank you again, and we look forward to working together with you in the future.”

6,382,120 kWh per annum saving

$1.1 million reduction in RPA's electricity bills

25,000 fittings changed

Emissions reduction equivalent to the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 78,498 tree seedlings grown for 10 years

Emissions reduction equivalent to taking 1,008 passenger vehicles off the road for 1 year

Equivalent to an annual reduction of 5,233 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions

Energy Efficiency Outcomes

Sydney Trains

Sydney Trains is the provider of passenger train services for the Sydney suburban area and maintainer of the greater metropolitan rail network.

National Carbon Bank continues to assist Sydney Trains in achieving their energy management objectives by participating in the New South Wales Energy Savings Scheme. Sydney Trains assessed energy usage across operations and identified opportunities for greater efficiency, specifically by upgrading lighting at stations to energy efficient LED technology.

Client Feedback

NCBA were engaged by Sydney Trains to generate ESCs for energy savings made under a major lighting upgrade project being undertaken across over 300 of our stations. In our dealings with NCBA we have found them to be professional and extremely responsive to our needs. They have shown a willingness to go the extra mile to obtain the best outcomes for our business and their expert advice and guidance has been indispensable to us in realising our full entitlements under the energy savings scheme rules. I would not hesitate to recommend NCBA.

Central Station

Central Station was one of the first stations to be upgraded. The upgrade consisted of the replacement of approximately 4000 36W T8 Fluorescent tubes with old style magnetic ballasts, to 1950 LED Fixed Luminaries with integrated ballasts.

A reduction in platform lighting energy usage of around 40%;

Reduced maintenance due the longer lamp life of the LED’s – up to 50,000 hours versus 14,000 hours for the previous lighting, and

Improved lux levels which have contributed to an enhanced customer environment as well as further strengthening safety and security at the site.

County Court of Victoria

The Victorian County Court is the main trial court in Victoria that hears over 11,000 Criminal and Civil cases each year.

National Carbon Bank of Australia worked with NuGreen Solutions, who undertook the lighting upgrade, to provide the Victorian County Court with significant energy savings. The upgrade consisted of changing 3,634 fittings to LED Lamps.

Energy Efficiency Outcomes

  • 2,076,712 kWh per annum saving

  • 3,634 fittings changed

  • Equivalent to an annual reduction of 1,468 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions

  • Equivalent to greenhouse emissions avoided by 499 tonnes of waste recycled instead of landfilled

  • Emissions reduction equivalent to the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 24,279 tree seedlings grown for 10 years

  • Emissions reduction equivalent to taking 312 passenger vehicles off the road for one year

Coles DC Somerton

The Coles Distribution Centre in Somerton receives thousands of products which are then distributed to various Coles retailers around Australia, including Tasmania. The upgrade consisted of changing 148 350W Metal Halides to 148 LED Lamps.

1,430,136 kWh per annum saving
