Description of company:

The Energy Saver involved in this commercial upgrade provides solutions for all mining, transportation, milling, processing and waste management activities. The organisation spans its organisation over 70 countries, with 16 service centers in Australia. The Energy Saver is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its operations. Environmental management and occupational health and safety are fully integrated into all operational procedures. Their operations are supported with compliance assurance processes, ensuring all applicable environmental legal requirements are identified and managed. The organisation has also introduced global standards for operational control of environmental, health and safety risks.

Description of the energy savings upgrade/equipment:Foundry 2014-05-01 12.31.15

Key equipment involved in  this project sites included the replacement of:
• 512 (quantity) 400W Highbay Metal Halide with Magnetic Ballasts
with
• 493 (quantity) 300W Induction Highbays

Financial and Business viability:

The organisation has pursued continual improvement in environmental performance, focusing on carbon footprint reduction and air emissions reduction. They identified several potential energy efficiency improvement projects within the plant, and aimed to adapting to escalating energy costs. By replacing the existing lighting to new low emissions products they were able to successfully reduce energy consumption.
By installing energy efficient induction lighting Weir Minerals achieved significant financial benefits from reduced energy consumption and additional revenue from the creation and sale of the Energy Savings Certificates.

NCBA created ESC’s under our Building Services Upgrades accreditation, using the PIAM&V method, for a client in Parramatta.

  • 2 x chiller upgrade
  • Complete pump upgrades
  • Air Handling Unit upgrades
  • Chilled and Condenser Water pipework upgrade
  • Cooling Tower upgrade
  • Boiler upgrades
  • BMCS upgrade.

Financial and Business viability:

The value generated from trading the ESCs on the market produced an approximate 14% return on capital expenditure. Option C Measurement allowed NMI data to be used as a baseline so the project could proceed immediately from the anticipated start date. Acceptable energy models were created after only 2 months of the operating measurement period.
